Calera Solo Sessions (Chasm 2022) is an array of compositions and covers arranged for solo classical guitar in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic for so many was a period of solitude, this body of work is a fruit of this condition wherein the vast majority of musicians were obliged to recalibrate and perform alone in the refuge of their homes. Calera Solo Sessions is also invariably a sequel to “Musings and Origins: Solo Acoustic” (CHASM 2019) albeit the latter was performed and recorded on a steel string flat-top acoustic. Calera Solo Sessions, furthermore, diverges stylistically from “Musings” as an infusion of new age, classical, South American folk, Americana, and jazz. Calera Sessions demonstrates yet another facet of Diamond’s growing palette as an instrumentalist and composer.
